A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY THROUGH MUMBAI

A coffee-table book about a Mumbai that often goes unnoticed.

Over four years and more than 100 walks, Sanjay Mehta explored the city on foot — from its hidden neighbourhoods and forgotten corners to its coastlines, markets, places of faith, green spaces and everyday streets.

Every photograph was taken on foot. Every story grew out of the walk itself. Together, they reveal a Mumbai that even lifelong Mumbaikars may not have seen.

This is not a book you read and put away.

It is a book you leave on a table and find people standing over, turning pages slowly, saying – “I had no idea this place existed.” Every photograph was taken on foot, before the city woke up, in the kind of light that disappears the moment you hurry. Every story was written close to the moment – while the walk was still in the legs and the city was still in the eyes. The result is 350 pages of Mumbai that most people – even lifelong Mumbaikars – have never seen.

About the Author:

Sanjay Mehta is a serial entrepreneur and lifelong Mumbaikar. In his early sixties, he began walking the city on weekend mornings – not as an athlete or historian, but as an observer. What started as short neighbourhood strolls has grown into a sustained practice of exploration. He continues to walk Mumbai one footstep, one photograph, and one curious pause at a time.
